Found in lagoon reefs, at 2-10 m. A midwater feeder remaining relatively close to cover, within 1-2 m, but also forage on the bottom. A specimen was found to have 5000 eggs (Ref. 11890). Museum: Nagada Harbor, CAS 65319. Ninigo Is., USNM 261076. Tanahmerah Bay, USNM 123381 (Ref. 8525). Also Ref. 37816.
